Have you ever been to a restaurant where you thought something like, "Wow this is a very bad restaurant. I don't like a single thing on this menu."
It happened to me many times already.
Just the other day it happened to me once again.
So what do you usually do when this happens to you?
Do you stay there and order something you don't really like or do you walk away?
I usually get up and just walk away.
I know it feels super weird.
And people will look at you. People shake their heads.
You will literally feel their eyes burning though your clothes. And then your underwear. And then you feel somehow naked.
Naked in front of the always judging eye. The eye we try to hide from. The eye that sees everything we do. The judging eye.
I like to call this eye "society".
It expects us to do certain things. To behave in a certain way. To follow a certain lifestyle. To attend a certain college. To get a certain job. To watch and listen to certain things.
To follow certain rules.
And going to a restaurant, sitting down, having the waiter bring you a menu and then walking away feels like failure.
I really don't know why but it somehow it feels like you failed to obey the rules.
It feels like you failed at this society thing. That you can't possibly do that. That you can't just walk away.
But after all that's exactly what we need to do.
We need to get over that judging eye. We need to learn to walk away from things we don't absolutely love.
We need to learn to leave shitty restaurants. To not finish bad books. To not stay in shitty relationships. To stop going to jobs we don't love.
After all, we only have this one life.
And I guess I would be really sad (or pissed off) at my deathbed about having lived a life where I did most of the things just because I was afraid of what the eye might think about me.
That's why I walk away from bad restaurants. That's why you should walk away from bad restaurants. That's why we should all walk away from bad restaurants.
Next time you're at a bad restaurant try it out. Walk away.
And then try to find a restaurant that really pleases you. That you love...
