Ever since I put it there I got weird requests and pitches from all over the world from people I don't know. So here's the one question people regularly ask me:
“What companies did you invest in?”
And here's what I usually reply:
“I didn't invest in any companies or people.”
Does that mean I'm a liar? Maybe it does. Maybe it doesn't. I don't really care.
But to be honest, I also invested quite heavily in one person last year (and will invest again this year).
I put everything I have in one person. All of my money. All of my hope. All of my dreams.
I invested everything I have in myself.
I bought myself some freedom to do what I want. To do what feels right. To learn the things I need and want to learn.
Needless to say that this was quite a selfish investment. And again, I don't care.
And you should do that too.
You should invest in yourself too.
Don't wait for anybody else to invest in you.
That's never going to happen. People invest in themselves. They don't invest in anybody else.
Companies don't invest in skills that will help you. They will only invest in skills that help them.
The only person that will be able to ignite your potential is you. And. no.one.else. Period.
You're the only one that knows what you're good at. What you're not so good at. What you want to do with your life.
Nobody will be able to read your mind. Not even the best manager on this planet will be. Even if she might be able to, she will do everything to keep your ass where you are.
If you wait for someone to invest in you, you will end up in a cycle where everybody else will just tell you what to do.
They're going to take over you life's steering wheel.
And then you end up in a place like Arkansas.
A place you never really wanted to be. A place you never even knew really existed. And getting back from Arkansas to the place you always wanted to be in your life with no money, no driver's license and no clue about anything will be pretty damn hard.
Another thing will happen if you invest in yourself.
You'll be able to create the best version of yourself.
The person that might be able to really make a difference. The person you'll be happy with. The person you can fall in love with. The person other people can fall in love with.
People will start to feel attracted to you. To the person that is trying to and seems to be able to make a difference. The person other people will admire and fall in love with.
If you invest in yourself before anything and everybody else, you'll become that person that will ignite the fire in other people.
That fire will then ignite the fire in even more people.
Until everybody around you, around them is burning with passion again. With dreams.
And to me, that's probably the best investment you, me, we will ever be able to make in our whole lives...
